Gratitude

  • We gratefully accept any attack or conflict as an opportunity to understand others and ourselves

  • We gratefully grow and develop ourselves through our response to conflict

Attune

  • We become progressively more attuned to ourselves, the people around us, and our environment
  • By attuned, we mean aware of our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual states

Harmonize

  • Now that we are attuned to ourselves and our partner, we harmonize and blend our energies into one. This is the “Aiki” part of Aikido.

Resonate

  • Now that we have harmonized the energy, we redirect the energy into the most resonant, beneficial outcome for all parties

 Evaluate

  • After each experience, it’s important for us to evaluate  what we did well and what we could have done better.
  • During this process, it’s important to remove judgment from the process.  Words like “good”, “bad”, and “sucked” are counterproductive to correction and development.  Words like “smooth”, “rough”, “choppy” are more accurate and more helpful to progress and improvement.
  • Understand that struggle is part of the process for progress

Apply to Daily Life

  • We consciously and deliberately apply the system, principles and lessons to our lives off the mat
  • Surprisingly, we find that this kind of applied cross-pollination accelerates our understanding and progress on the mat
  • We also find that this kind of applied cross-pollination increases self-confidence in other areas of our lives

 Rinse and Repeat

  • Now go do it all over again...and ENJOY!
